Holmes Solutions - Modular Rockfall Protection Wall

The Kaikoura magnitude of 7.8 earthquake caused over 50 landslides along State Highway 1, north and south of Kaikoura. Damaging both road and railway infrastructure bringing the passageway from Marlborough to Christchurch, via Kaikoura, to a standstill. With no solution currently available, a team of specialist were assembled to research, design, build and test an innovative solution fit for purpose. The design and build of the Modular Rockfall Protection Wall (MRPW) solution was a team effort driven by the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery Alliance (NCTIR), including Fulton Hogan, Stahlton Engineered Concrete and Geofabrics New Zealand Ltd. To ensure the MRPW would be effective, Holmes Solutions were asked to conduct a series of full scale dynamic tests to validate the theoretical solution. Click on the video to see the outcome.
