These are the two most commonly used welds in the industry. Understanding the difference, and why the two are used will make it less difficult to learn the various welding symbols used with groove welds. This video captures and describes four different T-joints, each with fillet welds, and a T-joint that utilizes a groove weld and then a fillet weld. We look at the differences in penetration across all examples, and by the end you can see how using groove welds allows the welder to obtain more penetration than with simple fillet welds.
