Ranking the albums of Nantucket on Sea of Tranquality • Ranking the Albums: Nantucket Nantucket is a Southern rock band formed in Jacksonville, North Carolina, in 1969. Originally a beach music cover band called Stax of Gold, they later took the name Nantucket Sleighride, inspired by Mountain’s song and album, before settling on Nantucket. The original lineup included Tommy Redd (guitar, vocals), Larry Uzzell (bass, vocals, trumpet), Mike Uzzell (keyboards, vocals), Eddie Blair (saxophone, keyboards, vocals), Kenny Soule (drums), and Mark Downing (guitar). They gained a strong following in the Carolinas playing covers before incorporating original songs. In 1977, Nantucket signed with Epic Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1978, featuring the hit single “Heartbreaker.” The album sold about 200,000 copies, charted on Billboard, and led to nationwide tours supporting acts like KISS, Styx, Boston, Journey, and The Doobie Brothers. Their second album, Your Face or Mine?, came in 1979, but Mike Uzzell was fired, replaced by Pee Wee Watson on bass. In 1980, Nantucket paid tribute to AC/DC’s late singer Bon Scott by covering “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'N' Roll)” on their album Long Way to the Top, earning them a spot on AC/DC’s Back in Black tour. Despite some success, Epic dropped Nantucket. In 1981, Kenny Soule and Pee Wee Watson left to form the rock trio PKM with guitarist Michael Gardner. Nantucket released a fourth album with new members Richard Gates and David "Thumbs" Johnson. Two more albums followed in 1983 and 1985, but they couldn’t recapture earlier success, and the band disbanded in 1990. In 1991, original members reunited, recording the live album Still Live after All These Years (released 1995), featuring early hits and new material. They continued sporadic performances in the Carolinas and released The Unreleased "D.C. Tapes" in 2006. Nantucket was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame on October 11, 2012. @grantsrockwarehaus / @stephenschnee Check out Grant’s Rock Warehaus at the following: FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...
