Nothing happens outside America’s big cities without a car. Due to the fact that the Americans reluctantly leave their cars there is a drive in solution for everything. You know for sure already the Drive in solution for restaurants but there is also: Drive in for weddings, Drive in for banks, Drive in for the elections and since a few years there is also...Drive in for funerals. The Paradise Funeral Chapel in Saginaw in the state of Michigan is offering family members an unusual way to say goodbye. Perhaps the drive - through viewing sounds a bit macabre...but the idea is quite meaningful thought. Ivan Philips has observed that elderly and physically handicapped people have a hard time attending funerals and mourning ceremonies. The idea came to him when a woman was unable to attend her husband's funeral. That's why he invented the drive - through window. So all the mourners have the opportunity to say good-bye to their loved ones... without having to leave the car. At the drive-thru, you pull up, sign the memory book and deposit memory items or envelopes to a slot. Then curtains automatically pull back and music begins playing overhead and you can view the casket. You have three minutes to say your final goodbye to your loved ones. Even the almost 4000 kilometer distant California has a drive in mourning hall! Few have made use of the service so far, but the funeral home's president hopes it will take off once people realize it's not a gimmick.
