Today we are visiting less frequented Chandragiri, Shravanabelagola and unveil the grandeur of the serene temple complex in this 10-minute journey! We also cover the historical significance of Chandragiri, associated with the Mauryan emperor Chandragupta Maurya and his Jain Acharya, Shruta Kevali. The captivating story of Bahubali's renunciation and his rise to spiritual enlightenment. The architectural brilliance of the Gommateshwara Bahubali statue and other Jain temples at Shravanabelagola. Anecdote It said Rishabanatha distributed his kingdom to his 100 sons before becoming a Muni. Bharata, the first son, soon after returning from his digvijaya, returns to Ayodhya with a divine rotating weapon called Chakrarathna Except Bahubali, all his other 98 brothers are claimed to have become monks giving up their kingdoms. There were three kinds of contests - Eye Fight, i.e staring at each other, Jalyudha i.e water fight, and Malyudh i.e wrestling, between the two brothers. Baahubali is said to have won all these three contests, thus infuriating Bharata, who invokes the chakraratna. But, instead of harming Bahubali, it circambulates him thrice. As according to Jain tradition, the divine weapon loses their effectiveness when confronted with their masters relationship. After this Baahubali developed a desire for renunciation and gave up His Kingdom to become a monk. Thanks for watching.
