A short trip to the Helston Railway, the most southerly railway in the United Kingdom, and quite possibly the slowest. The line is just over 1 mile running between Prospidnick Halt, and Truthall Halt, with 1 intermediate stop at Trevarno. The line is relaid along the old GWR branch line from Helston to Gwinear Road. You can watch ‘Then & Now - West Cornwall’, to see the rest of the line in its heyday compared to the present day. The hope is to extend the line to Helston, over the Cober Viaduct, which would be rather spectacular to see. This is a MUST-VISIT railway, it is extraordinary to see all the work taking place to restore the line to its former glory. There is a selection of rolling stock, with small steam locomotives and diesel shunters, and DMUs. On this particularly wet day, the service consisted of 1 DMU, and a Shunter, which sounds remarkably close to a tractor.
