Long ago before the ache of fear, Before the world learned how to tear, There was a place beneath the sun Where every breath and heart were one. Four rivers crossed like silver seams, Carrying laughter, carrying dreams, And all creation lived in tune From breaking dawn to rising moon. In the Garden of Eden, we were whole, Barefoot hearts, unburdened souls, No shadow followed where we ran, We walked with God, just woman and man. Trees bent low with heavy grace, Fruit like jewels in time and space, Flowers waking every morn Like the light had called their names at dawn. Lions rested, lambs lay near, No hunger, no instinct born of fear, Birds sang songs that filled the air, Never once the need to scare. In the Garden of Eden, peace was law, Nothing missing, nothing flawed, Every sound a promise kept, Every tear unknown, unswept. Beneath the leaves where shadows grew, A serpent spoke, his voice was smooth, “Did God really say no to you? Is His warning really true?” Eve replied with honest breath, Spoke the rule, spoke of death, But the serpent softly lied, “You won’t fall—you’ll rise inside.” “Your eyes will open, you will see, You’ll be more than what you’re meant to be.” And the fruit shone bright in gentle light, Full of wonder, full of sight, She reached, she tasted, shared the sin, And the breaking entered in. In a moment, swift and deep, Innocence was lost to sleep, Eyes were opened, not to grace, But fear stared back in every face. They saw their skin, they felt the weight, A heavy truth, a closing gate, And when God walked the garden way, They hid themselves at close of day. “Where are you?” the question rang, Through trembling leaves where silence sang, Not for knowledge, not for sight, But hearts that never learned to hide. Blame fell hard from tongue to tongue, Words were sharp where love had sung, The serpent cursed to dust and ground, Pain and sorrow found their sound. Birth would ache, the soil would fight, Sweat would mark both day and night, And paradise could not remain Where innocence was torn by gain. They walked away from Eden’s flame, Into labor, into pain, But not abandoned, not alone, A promise followed flesh and bone. Eden lives in longing still, In every hope, in every will, Not just a tale of what we lost, But of love that paid the cost. The journey began the day we fell, Toward a life restored again— For brokenness will not have the last word, And one day, we’ll walk back home.
