👉More similar videos are on the way. Please subscribe!👈 Varanasi is older than history, Older than tradition, older even than legend, And looks twice as old as all of them put together. MARK TWAIN Amazing VOICEOVER done by Olivia Paul (CCC olivia_paul01). Please support her on IG @graphite_paul Let’s look into the spiritual capital of India, the holiest city in Hinduism, Jainism and because of a small village called Sarnath, it is also significant for Buddhism. Sarnath is one of the four most important Buddhist pilgrimage places, as the local ground served to Buddha as he taught the Dharma for the first time. Varanasi, a city with more than 3,6 million inhabitants in Indian state Uttarpradesh, from centuries, is known as the Hub of education. From ancient times, people from all over the world use to come there to learn various skills such as Sanskrit, Astrology or sciences. Local Banaras Hindu University is one of the top universities of India. It’s also a birth place of legends like Rani Lakshmi Bai, first woman freedom fighter, or great Indian poets of the Middle Ages, Kabir Das and Ravi Das. Varanasi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. As legend says, the city was founded by Lord Shiva - the creator, preserver, destroyer, concealer, and revealer of human beings. The culture of Varanasi is closely connected with the Ganges. Bathing in the holy river will wash away all the sins. The city has been a cultural center of North India for several thousand years, and has a history older than most of the historical cities in the world. Hindu scriptures say that dying in Varanasi and getting cremated along the banks of the holy Ganges river allows the deceased to break the cycle of rebirth and attain salvation. The places, where bodies are cremated and then connected with river Ganges, are called ghats, specifically Harishchandra Ghat and Manikarnika Ghat, which is older than 1,5 thousand years and gets about 300 human bodies daily for cremation. Other ghats are used for praying and worshiping rituals called aarti. In here, death is not feared but celebrated. Millions of people come here with hope, not fear. As tourists and pilgrims row past the ghats in boats, priests and the families of the deceased are murmuring and chanting for the release of the dead person’s soul amid the thick cloud of smoke emanating from the melting flesh.
