A volunteer-run ski slope in Allenheads, Northumberland, has been open this week after 4cm of snow dusted the Pennines. Northumberland skiers have taken to the slopes this week after snow in the Pennines meant that the county's only non-artificial ski slope was open for business. The runs at Ski Allenheads are more than 100 metres in length and the club is popular among families and beginner skiers, with many young people 'going on to enjoy skiing for the rest of their lives' after starting at the club, according to one member. The club has seen a rise in memberships this year (which are necessary to ski) as France has closed its borders to UK tourists following the rise in Omicron cases. Here are some of the best images of those who have chosen Allenheads over Alpe d'Huez this January.
