A Warning Against Wearing Dreadlocks

This video was made to give some insight into the spiritual impact that dreadlocks can have on the life of a believer. As we take a good look at the spiritual implications associated with the wearing of dreadlocks, lets see it from a biblical perspective. "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil." I Thessalonians 5:21,22 As believers we are never to take something that is associated with the worship of a Hindu deity such as Shiva and identify it with Christ. (See Deuteronomy 12:30-32) We must address the question of dreadlocks and the possible spiritual connection to forces unknown. "...and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils." I Corinthians 10:20 God is calling every believer to be holy and to be separated from this sin sick world. Holiness covers every aspect of our lives even how we wear our hair. (See I Peter 1:15,16; Leviticus 19:1,2,27) The Levites who made up the priestly order were forbidden to have long hair or locks but were commanded to maintain their hair and keep it at a moderate length. (See Ezekiel 44:20) As a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ we too are of a royal priesthood and of a holy people therefore we too are not to have long hair or locks. (See I Peter 2:9; I Corinthians 11:14-16) The Israelites were only able to grow their hair long or into locks while under the Nazarite Vow. (See Number 6:1-9) Even though many people believe that Jesus had dread locks the scriptures prove this not to be true. Because one of the conditions of a Nazarite vow is that a person could not drink any wine nor touch the dead. (See Numbers 6:1-21) But the scriptures clearly state that Jesus drunk wine and touched the dead. (See Matthew 26:27-29; I Corinthians 11:23-26) Jesus comforts the mother (Luke 7:12-15) and then touches the bier. Doing this would have made Him ritually unclean and therefore guilty of breaking a Nazarite vow. But when it comes to the subject of long hair the apostle Paul writes to the church of Corinth that it is against nature for a man to have long hair. Also the Paul assures believers that there is no such custom in the churches of God as to men having long hair. (See I Corinthians 11:14-16) Pastor John MacArthur explains, “Men and women have distinctive physiologies. One obvious difference is the process of hair growth. Head hair develops in three stages: formation and growth, resting, and fallout. The male hormone testosterone speeds up the cycle so that men reach the third stage earlier than women. The female hormone estrogen causes the cycle to remain in stage one for a longer period, causing women’s hair to grow longer than men’s.” 3)
