Whilst this is the case for most of Noctua's coolers, the L9a-AM4 has slightly different dimensions to the NH-L9i, and because they are both so flat, the L9a-AM4 is a little too big for some intel motherboards. So, whilst the NH-L9i can be upgraded to AM4, the L9a-AM4 cannot be upgraded for use on intel sockets.
