Tasmanian Independent Mike Gaffney MLC was the MP who put up the VAD Private Member's Bill in 2021 which was passed with unanimous Upper House support by Tasmanian Parliament, a world first for a Private Member's Bill. Although VAD has been operational in Tasmania for three years now and is very well supported by the community and medical practitioners, Tasmania is the only State without an online portal for the processing of VAD applications. Mike tells Nightshift how this critical issue is finally being addressed and how important it is to efficiency and GP recruitment and retention.
