From the Wednesday morning January 21, 2026 meeting of The Forum inside Cascade Hall on the campus of Colorado Mesa University Montrose. The Forum welcomes host author, historian, businessman, philanthropist, and former commander at the Royal Military Academy Kelvin Kent presenting “Everest-The Hard Way”. “Everest-The Hard Way is a graphic account of the 1972 British national expedition to attempt the unclaimed Southwest face of Everest in the more difficult post monsoon season.” Kent was a member of that team. Kent became an expert in expedition logistics, participating in numerous expeditions including: -a solo trek from the Indian border to the Tibetan border; -leader of an overland expedition from England to Calcutta via Europe, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal and India; and -deputy leader of the British Trans America's expedition which made the first ever unbroken land journey from Anchorage, Alaska to Tierra Del Fuego in southern Chile. In the early 1970's Kent was a team member of Sir Chris Bonington's Himalyan expeditions to scale the South Face of Annapurna and winter attempt on the Southwest Face of Everest. He has climbed Kilimanjaro from the Tanzanian side and Kinabalu, in Sabah, the highest mountain in SE Asia and has traveled or lived in over 60 countries. The Forum meets each Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. in Cascade Hall on the Colorado Mesa University’s Montrose campus.
