From my curiosity, I would like to know how much is the difference in sound quality of the CD which were manufactured 20 years apart. Whether the advancement of the CD technology worth upgrade or not? A legendary Nakamichi model MB 10 was manufactured around the year 2000 while the Cambridge Audio CXC is the CD transport manufactured around year 2020. Nakamichi MB10 was once recognized as one of the best CD in its age; while Cambridge Audio CXC won many awards as a CD transport under 500USD. As the Cambridge Audio CXC is CD transport, so I play it via the optical cable to the Cambridge Audio CXA60. I also play Nakamichi MB10 via optical cable in order to make both of these machines using the same DAC of CXA60 for the fairness of the comparison. My conclusion, both machines can play superb sounding CD quality. I feel that the crispness of the sound for both machines is the same. However, when I test with Bose noise cancellation headphone 700, I feel that Cambridge Audio CXA has a larger sound stage and its sound "a little" more relaxing than the MB10. The difference in sound stage is more obvious when play on the proper (just regular 2 speakers stereo system) on the speakers. Nakamichi MB10 sound position right at the speakers while the CXC sound stage is wider. I feel that the CXC sound is about 1 ft wider on each speaker. So far, I am happy with the CXC and it is worth upgrade as the technology can really make a difference to me. The answer is "Yes" for me.
