Rules Covered in this Video: Order 17 Rule 1 – Court may grant time and adjourn hearing The Court may grant time and adjourn the hearing if sufficient cause is shown, but the number of adjournments generally should not exceed three. The Court must record reasons and may impose costs. Order 17 Rule 2 – Procedure if parties fail to appear on the day fixed If a party fails to appear on the date fixed for hearing, the Court may dispose of the suit according to Order 9 CPC, or decide the case on merits if evidence has already been recorded.
