In one of the most inaccessible areas of the Sabina hills, overlooking the gorge of the Aia stream, we find the castle of Rocchettine (Torri in Sabina, RI). The historical data relating to the origins of the fortress, in reality a real castle village, are few and fragmentary. The ancient name of "Rocca Guidonesca" rather clearly refers to some form of original relationship with the Guidoneschi family. It is known that the castle and its village were built in the 12th century with the aim of protecting, together with the twin fortress of Rocchetta, the road that led from the Tiber valley to the Rieti area. The data relating to the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries are more certain when the castle was first owned by the Savellis and then by the Orsinis.
