In recent years the fascinating, centuries-old debate over the relationship between faith and science has expanded from focusing primarily on the way science supports or challenges traditional reasons for religious belief, to consider how current studies explain the causes and consequences of faith. Are we naturally disposed to believe in moral deities, the sacred, or transcendent purpose (is there a “god-shaped vacuum” in the human heart)?; or are such beliefs invasive “viruses of the mind”?
