Some experiments with using two cheap laser pointers: 650 nm and 980 nm, as illuminators by defocusing their beams. Experiment about chromatic aberrations for refractive objective used in NV system, when working with two different monochromatic illuminating sources (650 nm and 980 nm). Interesting link, from Carpe Nocturnum, illustrating also this issue, but with different chosen wavelength • AN/PVS-14 a Lesson in Focus Consideration and constation about adequation between source's powers and spectral response of a sensor (IMX 290 MM, here), for two different wavelengths (650 nm, 980 nm). Dark scene from my position, around 100 m away, session made between 23H00 and 24H00, Den Haag (NL), in the evening of 31/05/2022. No Moon. Some light pollution coming from the surrounding urban environment, but nevertheless the scene was pitch black with naked eye. These cheap pointers do not meet requirements for being considered as true effective and ergonomic illuminators. The projected defocused beam is not homogen (diffraction rings, illuminated area not perfectly circular and not well defined...). But their were sufficient for such kind of small experiments for illustrating the two main points expressed in the first slide of this video. Gain is manually adjusted for giving acceptable images.
