During the 1960s, Gordon McLendon began building indoor theatres as Showcase Theatres. In 1970, the Redstone family built its first indoor movie theatre, the Showcase I and II in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. As you will see in this video, we will prove that Texas was part of the Redstones' plans to go national after Gordon McLendon died in 1986, the same year Redstone Management became National Amusements. We will also prove that McLendon's smaller theatres had to go to a small-town movie theatre owner, only to see theaters in mid-size Texas markets become part of AMC Theatres.
