Collin: Hey everyone is Collin here at etrailer. Today we have a 2012 Toyota 4Runner, and we're going to do test fit of a Thule Hull-a-Port Aero kayak carrier. Now this carrier mounts to the Thule square bar roof rack system. It allows you to get your kayak loaded up on your roof. It does come included with the two straps that we have securing our kayak to the carrier. And it's also going to come with bow and stern straps as well. Now this kit does come with the square bar adapter kit, along with the carrier. If you just need the carrier because you have a load bar or a wing bar set up, then you can just use the T slots so you won't need to pick up this adapter kit. But you can say it just comes right under the square bar and locks into place. The benefit of having this J style kayak carrier is that you can have a lot of space on the other side for other things to get on your roof, whether you want to get another kayak up there, maybe a cargo box or even a bike rack. Now I want to go ahead and remove the kayak so we can take a closer look at the carrier. I'm going to start with our bow and stern straps. We have the excess tied off right here. I'm going to undo that. I'm just going to leave that sit right there. What we can actually do is take it off the carabiner, we'll just leave that there. We have the anchor under the hood right now so we have to open it up to get that out. Just don't forget about that. Now will get the stern as well. We're just going to leave that be right here. We can get that when we get the kayak off. Now we're going to come up to the straps if you have a height restriction, you can go ahead and step on the running board and the seat. We have this nice rubber cap on our clamp right here. It's going to help protect the metal from damaging your vehicle or even your kayak. Then if you can, you can just go ahead and pull the strap all the way out. There's a slot on the backside where the straps sit in. Right here, it's probably a little bit easier to step up on the tire just so you can reach it a little better. Again, go ahead and put the strap all the way off.And now we can get the kayak off. If you have a height restriction, a little tip I would give is tilting it towards you and then as it comes down get one of your hands up so you can catch it right there. You can also use it to balance on the carrier as well. This carrier is going to have unique design. It doesn't have that standard tubular design which comes up and doesn't have that foam padding around it. We've got a nice soft padding right here that's going to hold up a lot longer than the foam that could crack and fade over time. Now, what's nice is that while we have it in the upper position right now, from the top of the roof rack to the top of the crossbar is going to be 17 inches added on to the top. Now we can cut down on the space just by folding it down. All we're going to do is pull the latch right there and we can fold our arm down all the way till it locks into place. We'll do that on both sides. At this point, from the top of the roof rack to the top of the carrier, we've added on about 4 1/4 inches. This is something you want to keep in mind for any low clearance situations like pulling into your garage. Now how you access the tightening tools, it's going to be a tool free installation. We had this clamp system right here where we have two clamps we can loosen and tighten them however we see fit. Once you feel tension on, that's when you want to push down. It's actually going to pull up on the brackets below to make sure that it's tight. See right there When you're all installed, you can close that up. And on the front side we're going to have Thule's one key system so we can lock it up and it's going to be a good theft deterrent. From there, I can't access those clamps. Well, that's going to do it for our test fit of the Hull-a-Port Aero kayak carrier from Thule on our 2012 Toyota 4Runner.
