A couple of techniques for apply Cordstrap composite with the wire buckle. Remember, take out as much slack as possible. Leave enough room in the "loop" to make it easy to work with the strap. Don't pinch the strap, and simply flip it over the leg of the buckle as demonstrated. After threading the buckle, pull remaining strap out by placing one hand on the piece of strap that is around the load, or on the tensioning side of the buckle. Hold in place or "push" toward the buckle while pulling the working end of the strap. Place the tool on the strap, approximately 12" from the buckle, the gripper foot securing the strap which is around the load, and the working end through the cutter blade and then through the windlass. Wind the strap tight by working the handle, and be sure to at least initially cock the handle in a direction that drives the open end of the cutter blade in a directions that prevents the tool from walking off of the strap. Tension until the buckle leg on the tool side closes, and you can also look for some peeling of the strap coating to indicate you've applied the correct amount of tension. Squeeze the handle to cut the strap and keep it squeezed as you remove the tool from the strap.
