Manindra Agrawal on decline in the COVID cases in India | Exclusive

India's second covid-19 wave is showing signs of ebbing and new infections will go down to 1.5 lakh mark by end of May according to IIT Professor Manindra Agrawal, the scientist behind the SUTRA model, helping the government chart the trajectory of Covid-19. "Our model is showing very clearly that we are now on the way down, which means that the worst is indeed over. But that is not to say that all states are in the same boat. There are many states where we have crossed the peak like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, the J&K. States like Tamil Nadu, West Bengal are still climbing up. New infections will decline to about 1.5 lakh cases by end of May," Agrawal said in an interview with ET Now. India's daily new infections came in at 2,81,367 on Monday, the lowest in 26 days, while the weekly positivity rate has dipped to 18.17% with more than 15.7 lakh tests been done in the last 24 hours.
