The Barnsley social history film maker Dave Cherry has digitised a Standard 8mm cine film which was originally shot by Roland Pearson in 1965. Here Dave interviews his son Paul who speaks about the archive [film. We see shots of the Penistone show, children at Whitsuntide and footage of church parades in the town. The ‘Flying Scotsman’ is seen at the train station leaving for Cleethorpes on a special excursion. The train is then seen at Barnsley. Shots of the electric trains between Sheffield and Manchester are seen on the line which closed for passenger traffic in 1970. A remarkable social history film of life in the sixties.
