VN24 - 01-08-2023 (D/M/Y) - Erwitte/Anröchte - Germany - In the morning hours, a truck left the lane on the A44 freeway in the eastbound direction between the Soest-Ost junction and the Erwitte/Anröchte interchange just a few hundred meters behind the Kliever Mühle rest area and landed in the ditch on Anröchte territory. There, the Semitrailer tipped over and lay against an embankment. The driver was reportedly not injured. An initial attempt to recover the fully loaded truck with a crane and a winch was quickly abandoned in order not to increase the damage. After the attempt to unload the approximately 28 pressed bales of waste paper with a crane proved not to be useful, a smaller crawler excavator was called into action. However, the holding force of the mounted sorting grab was not sufficient to grab the entire bales, each weighing about 750 to 1,000kg. A larger excavator with a powerful sorting grab was later used to ensure effective unloading. The Semitrailer was then raised with a winch and pulled back onto the road with the help of the excavator. A tow truck took the truck to a workshop.
