Opus 10 - String Sextet No. 1 - Chrysocolla

This piece was inspired by a wonderful indie webcomic called "Crystal Age," by artist Shimamom. Their style and world building were also further inspired by the works of Steven Universe (Rebecca Sugar) and Land of the Lustrous (Haruko Ichikawa). Whilst the story mainly follows a singular character, Chrysocolla (a living Jewel existing in a nature-reclaimed Earth) many others are developed as they exist within a tight-knit community. Everyone knows everyone, everyone hears about everything, and the particular aspects and quirks of these "Jewels" allow the depiction of (what I believe) an amazing allegory for the cycle of trauma between generations, the need for belonging, the desire to conform and the desire to break said conformity. Some of these emotions could be found within my music, but I also based it off the cute and colourful character designs, the interesting environment panels, and the narrative/emotional arc Chrys goes through before a significant, traumatic event.
