We explore - Ep14 - Tavira, Algarve

Sunday 15th August 2021 in Tavira, Algarve (still mask wearing...) Gui and I went on a road trip to the eastern Algarve town of Tavira. The ancient and historic town is located on the Rio Gilão and is a mixture of cultural influences, traditional Portuguese with Moorish and Roman thrown in. Within the labyrinth of tiny cobbled streets are fantastic restaurants, stunning churches and the remnants of the once huge castle. We found a street performer playing guitar in the castle grounds, watch to the end for a bonus performance. Well worth the visit in my opinion, with beautiful sandy beaches of the Ilha de Tavira, Parque Natural da Rio Formosa and other nearby towns of Vila Real de Santo António and Olhão and also close to the Spanish border. This was one of the hottest days of 2021 with the peak at 41C (106F), so if warm summer weather is one of the criteria you won't be disappointed.
