Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has accepted the outcome of the 2014 elections. Malema says despite the challenges the elections were free and fair. The party, formed 8 months ago, emerged as the third most popular party after the ANC and DA. It received more than a million votes on the national ballot and emerged as the official opposition in North West and Limpopo province. Malema says the successful elections have proved that multi-party democracy is thriving in the country. Meanwhile, the party is calling on its supporters in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg not to engage in any violence. Several of the party's members were arrested in the area on Friday night after protests broke out. Roads were barricaded with burning tyres and shops belonging to foreign nationals were looted. The protestors have been calling for a re-run of elections following allegations that IEC ballot boxes were seen inside an ANC marked vehicle.
