In this video, using the slab technique of building, I use an adjustable rectangular (4-sided) slump mold from Bamboo Tools. http://www.bambootools.com/moulds/Mou... to create a rectangular platter in stoneware clay with carved relief design. For rolling the slab, see one of my other videos on how to roll a slab, either by using a slab roller, or by hand. Here is the slab roller one, • How to Use a NorthStar Slab Roller to Roll... but, check out many of my other slab ones for rolling by hand and ribbing! Like this one: • Creating a Round Slab Cup with a Darted Sq... This video begins once the clay has been rolled out. I start by adjusting the mold to the size I want for my form. Then, I rib the clay with a rib. (I love the Sherrill Mudtools polymer ribs for compression: https://www.mudtools.com/product-cate... After ribbing and compressing, I place the clay in the mold, trim the edges, then allow to get leatherhard. After leatherhard drying, I show how I remove it from the mold, and then carve the relief texture in it. After cleaning the edge and the carving, I allow to completely dry, fire, I show glazing, and then the final finished fired form. I have another video showing how I create the notched card for cleaning the edge of the platter. See here: • Creating a Notched Rib from a Plastic Card... The clay I use is Laguna Bmix cone 5 with grog, and the glaze I show on the completed tray is Laguna WC-107 cone 5 Antique Jade http://www.lagunaclay.com/glazes/spec... Follow my Amazon Influencer Storefront for my recommendations of tools, and ceramic studio supplies! https://www.amazon.com/shop/karanspot... I am a full time high school visual arts teacher. I teach primarily ceramics, with roughly 150 students in my classroom every day. I teach in the largest high school in the state of Ohio- in a suburb of Cincinnati and Dayton- in the Mason City Schools. I have been teaching for over 28 years, and have been working in clay for over 30 years. I began my youtube channel years ago as a means to help kids not be behind if they missed a demonstration in classes. But, as I realized through the years, I can get more done with the kids IN class if I have them watch the videos for review anytime they need. They have become less dependent on me solving problems for them... and learning from what they are seeing to problem solve. Please subscribe to my channel for updates and more videos on working with clay! I received the bamboo tools rectangular mold for making the video.
