This Is How Congress is Combating the Fentanyl Illegal Drug Crisis | EWTN News Nightly

The flow of drugs into the United States from the southern border continues to skyrocket. Over the last year, deaths from illegal narcotics like Fentanyl, have exceeded 100,000. Just this past May, the House passed the HALT Fentanyl Act which would permanently classify fentanyl-laced drugs as having no medical use, ensure law enforcement has the authority to seize all fentanyl-related drugs, and increase penalties for all fentanyl-related drug convictions. One of the bill’s main sponsors, Republican Congressman Bob Latta, states that the measure sends a particular message to Mexican drug cartels. Thus far, the White House and 74 Democrats support the HALT Fentanyl Act. Congressmen such as Frank Pallone chime in saying the bill simply continues the status quo. He says, ""We simply cannot incarcerate our way out of a public health crisis...The American people deserve bipartisan solutions..."" The HALT Fentanyl Act has not yet come up on the Senate floor. Republican Senator Rick Scott has introduced the Social Media Act which is designed to combat the sale of fentanyl and other illicit drugs on social media platforms. That, too, awaits Senate floor action. EWTN News Capitol Hill Correspondent, Erik Rosales, reports on how lawmakers are taking steps to stem this Fentanyl flow and save lives.
