Stop missing chances to win! Mastering basic checkmating patterns is essential for converting a material advantage into a win. For many chess players, nothing is more frustrating than playing a near-perfect game, only to blunder the win in the endgame because they don't know how to deliver the final blow. To secure victory, focus on these five basic checkmates: 1) Two Rooks Mate (difficulty level - easy). A very simple technique to deliver checkmate with two major pieces, known as the “staircase” method or “lawnmower” method or “ladder” method. 2) Queen Mate (difficulty level - easy). A simple technique for cornering the opponent’s king, commonly referred to as the “L-shape” method or “Box” method. 3) Rook Mate (difficulty level - easy). Two simple techniques for surrounding the opponent’s king, known as either the “shrinking box” method or “waiting move” method. 4) Two Bishops Mate (difficulty level - medium). A useful skill, though such a checkmate is less common. It is relatively straightforward to learn. 5) Bishop and Knight Mate (difficulty level - advanced). The most complex of the basic mates. It should be learned only after the first four checkmating patterns are mastered. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ To master basic checkmates, see our other videos with over-the-board demonstrations here: • Basic Checkmates!
