Now with Omron G5NB and G5Q slim power relays, small PCB designs can be easier to create than ever. Let's say you start at a PCB design using conventional sugar cube relays, but now you need to reduce the footprint. If the relays are too big to fit the smaller footprint, what are your options? Compared to a conventional sugar cube relay, the 7 amp G5NB series is approximately 60% smaller, while the 10 amp G5Q series has an approximately 40% smaller footprint. The smaller footprint allows for high-density mounting on the PCB and helps designers reduce the total PCB size. The G5NB and G5Q low power consumption generates less heat and makes them ideal for high efficiency operations. Though slim and small, the relays are very robust, with an impulse withstand voltage rating of 8,000 volts for G5Q and 10,000 volts for a G5NB. This is significantly higher than conventional sugar cube relays and provides protection against lightning surge and other transient events while simplifying the installation design of the PCB.
