This is a tribute to the late great Karin Glenmark a vocalist and session singer for ABBA's Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus. I have selected 3 of my favourites from Gemini -a project established by ABBA's creatives for the siblings Anders and Karin Glenmark. 'Just Like That' is in my opinion, the best version of it here; despite ABBA recording a demo for it, but never including it on one of their long players; but eventually resurrecting it for their comeback set 'Voyage' in 2021. A hit in Scandinavia, this single and album did make it all the way to Australia where i bought a copy of it, thanks to my beloved second hand stores. Anything with ABBA's name on it, had my dollars! 'Slowly' the second track here had been recorded by Frida a year earlier on her 2nd English album 'Shine'. It is a great piece of moody mid 80's synth pop. Filled with drama and musicality, I loved Karin's powerful vocal. 'I Am The Universe' was lifted from Gemini's sophomore and final long player: 'Geminism'. It too has all the ABBA trademark ingredients. And in fact all three songs here were Written and Produced by Benny & Bjorn. One of the reasons I am paying tribute to Karin who passed away in October of 2025 at the age of 73, is due to the fact that in 1985 and 1987 when these tracks were issued, the legion of ABBA fans all around the world were still mourning the news that the Super Swedes would NOT be recording again. Any sign of life from any of the band members elicited a frenzy among fans. Frida's solo efforts 'Something's Going On' (82) and 'Shine' (84) and Agnetha's 'Wrap Your Arms Around Me' (83), 'Eyes of a Woman' (85) and 'I Stand Alone' (87) in addition to the Chess musical album in 1985, were lifelines for us. Singles 'One Night In Bangkok', 'I Know Him So Well' and 'Heaven Help My Heart' were all wonderful. Greatly appreciated. Karin and her brother Anders appeared on the Chess double album and the songs in this tribute are testament to Karin's vocal prowess and place in that era of Scandinavian pop. From a fan all the way downunder, condolences to the Glenmark clan, including Karin's offspring. I hope all who find this enjoy the music from 40 years ago.
