Luca’s research combines academic scholarship and artistic practice to explore how gender is culturally (per)formed through sound. Malina's work explores urban space as a multitude of flows of mobility and diasporas of peoples and knowledges. Luca Soudant is a PhD researcher at the Open University, artist, community organiser, DJ (ADIË), and theory teacher at the Maastricht Institute of Arts. Working with the queer materiality of sound as it appears and disappears in-between human and nonhuman actors, objects, and environments, Luca proposes “sonic thinking” as both an artistic research method and a trans*formative politics toward non-binary and anti-essentialist conceptions of the worlds we inhabit. Through embracing and exploring the displacement of cultural artifacts and people, Malina Suliman's work – conceptual, performative, and research-oriented – questions the fundamental artificiality of culture and the critique on the multi-cultural context. Her work serves as a tool for social and political critique, and as the exploration of the mechanisms behind social exclusion, discrimination, and inequality, as well as the various hierarchies concerning gender, class, race, ethnicity and citizenship that mark different territorialities.
