Cookie Cockatoo "Retires" at Brookfield Zoo

Since Cookie Cockatoo arrived here in 1934, millions of guests have seen him over the years. This 76-year-old Major Mitchells cockatoo has become one of our most famous animals, and he's the only remaining member of the original animal collection. Now a senior citizen, he has faced a few age-related health ailments in recent years, including osteoporosis and osteoarthritis, similar to those of elderly humans. Cookie has now taken up permanent residence in the keepers office at Perching Bird House, allowing him to retire in familiar and comfortable off-exhibit accommodations.
