Ronda, Andalucia, Spain Cordoba, Part 1 Ubeda, Part 2 Granada, Part 3 Ronda, Part 4 Seville, Part 5 This video is part 4 of a series covering a group tour through Andalucia. Ronda is probably the most famous of Andalucia’s ‘pueblos blancos’ (white towns) and is perched above El Tajo gorge in the Serrania de Ronda with spectacular views across the mountains and valleys. This gorge (El Tajo) separates the city’s circa-15th-century new town from its old town, dating to Moorish rule. Puente Nuevo, a stone bridge spanning the gorge, has a lookout offering spectacular views. New town’s Plaza de Toros, a legendary 18th-century bullring, is known as the birthplace of modern bullfighting. Ronda's annual Holy Week processions are a significant event, with processions depicting scenes from the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. These processions, organized by local brotherhoods, involved elaborate floats, known as pasos, and participants dressed in traditional attire. The processions included elements like candles, crosses, and drums, and the event is deeply rooted in the history and culture of Ronda. During our visit, a similar procession was held to celebrate the 75th anniversary of completing a special carving of a statue of the Virgin Mary. The elaborately adorned statue is carried through the streets of Ronda during Holy Week and special events. Paco Seco is a virtuoso guitarist with his home base in Ronda. He travels and gives performances world-wide. He also gives regular performances in his studio in Ronda. We had the privilege of enjoying one of his performances. Paco played a series of pieces, changing guitars based on the style of music being performed. We enjoyed Spanish, Classical, and Flamenco pieces. Reservatauro Ronda is a fascinating ranch dedicated to fighting bulls and Andalusian horses, located just 5 km from the city of Ronda, in an area designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Founded by bullfighter Rafael Tejada, this estate offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of the Spanish fighting bull and the Andalusian horse, providing an authentic and educational experience. Reservatauro is much more than just a ranch. It is a space where visitors can closely observe the lives of fighting bulls and Andalusian horses at all stages of their breeding. The estate spans 200 hectares of Mediterranean pastureland, providing a natural habitat for these magnificent animals.
