Montréal Forum closing ceremonies - March 11th, 1996, immediately following the Canadiens 4-1 win against the Dallas Stars. MCs Michel Lacroix and Dick Irving introduce (in French and English) Montreal Canadiens Hockey Hall of Famers: Maurice Richard, Jean Beliveau, Dickie Moore, Emile Bouchard, Gump Worsley, Henri Richard, Yvan Cournoyer, Ken Dryden, Guy Lafleur, Jacques Lemaire, Guy Lapointe, Serge Savard, Bob Gainey, Sam Pollock, Scotty Bowman and more! This is the complete closing ceremony, including the heart-warming 7-MINUTE STANDING OVATION FOR "ROCKET" RICHARD (starting at 29:00), a man who, despite his legendary status in the world of hockey, is not comfortable with this massive display of adulation... although he deserved every second of it. There is no other hockey team (or any team I'm aware of) that celebrates or commemorates its history like the Montréal Canadiens. When the sad time came to say "au revoir" to hockey's most treasured shrine, it had to be done with recognition given to those who helped make it "the most storied building in hockey history" (as is was dubbed by the 'Sporting News'). Le Forum de Montréal was opened on Nov. 29th, 1924 and served as the home to the Montreal Maroons from 1924 - 1938 and the Montreal Canadiens from 1926 - 1996. I am happy to say that I saw the Canadiens play against Boston, Detroit and Toronto in the Montréal Forum ... and the Habs won all 3 games!
