터키 주재 러시아 대사, 앙카라서 피격 사망•••'범인 터키 경찰' The Russian ambassador to Turkey has been shot dead by an off-duty police officer at an art gallery in Ankara. The presidents of Russia and Turkey have called the attack a provocation aimed at disrupting the warming ties between the two countries. Kim Mok-yeon has more. TV pictures showed the ambassador, Andrey Karlov, giving a speech when the gunman, wearing a suit and tie, opened fire from behind him,... shouting "Don’t forget Aleppo, don't forget Syria" and "God is Greatest" in Turkish. The gunman, identified as 22-year-old off-duty police officer Mevlut Mert Altintas, was killed shortly after the attack. Russia has been instrumental in helping the Assad regime in its successful push to retake eastern Aleppo from rebels, while Turkey has been supporting the Sunni Muslim groups fighting the Syrian government. Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered heightened security at Russian embassies around the world adding that he wants to know who "directed" the gunman. Edit No1245 "It is ordered to form a working group which will immediately fly to Ankara to take part in investigation of this crime along with Turkish partners. This agreement was made in a telephone conversation with Turkish president that just took place. We need to know who directed the killers hand." Putin said the murder was a provocation aimed at undermining Russia-Turkey ties and the peace process in Syria,...adding that the answer can only be strengthening the war on terror. World leaders were quick to condemn the murder. UN Spokesman Stephane Dujjaric said there can be no justification for an attack on a diplomat or an ambassador. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said the United States stands ready to offer assistance to Russia and Turkey. British foreign secretary Boris Johnson denounced the attack, calling it "cowardly".
