Flying to Ushuaia, Argentina & Perito Moreno Glacier! | Los Glaciares National Park | PATAGONIA VLOG

Travel Vlog #84 | El Calafate, Argentina We're traveling to Argentina! Today's video is an entirely new adventure. I (Ashley) am flying to Ushuaia, to fly to El Calafate with my dad! This region of the world is better known as Patagonia (yes, the clothing brand was named after this area!) Patagonia is one huge adventure, starting from the VERY beginning. In order to get to Patagonia from the US, it takes some time. We first flew to Houston, to fly to Buenos Aires, to change airports, to fly to Ushuaia, to fly to El Calafate! In order to make this route work, we flew with United to Buenos Aires, and then Aerolineas Argentinas to El Calafate! After recovering from my longest travel day yet, we set out to see one of the most significant and magnificent glaciers in Patagonia - Perito Moreno Glacier! This glacier is HUGE and full of fun facts! Over 200 feet tall, 18,000 years old, and growing over 2 meters a day. Yes, growing! This is one of the only glaciers in Patagonia, and the world, that is growing rather than shrinking. We spent a ton of time walking along the elevated walkways getting every possible view of the glacier from eye level and above. Glacier calving, aka when a piece of the glacier falls off, is a common occurrence here, BUT it's not as common to see entire structures fall off, which we were lucky enough to see! We spent a long time waiting for the perfect calve, and we're so thankful it paid off! Perito Moreno glacier calving has even made the news, so it was incredible being able to watch in person. After our full day in Los Glaciares National Park, we were starving so we headed back to El Calafate. Something to keep in mind if you're visiting this area is to make reservations or eat early! By the time we got back around 7pm, most restaurants were booked until 10pm or later. Luckily, we found a more local spot that had seating for us as well as delicious food. For dinner, we ate lamb stew and cheesy potatoes - both specialties of the region! Sadly, when looking over my footage and doing some googling, I learned this place has been permanently closed.
