Frogger is a truly classic game similar to Pac-Man, but he doesn't seem to thrive as much as Pac-Man has. In 1997, a joint collaboration between Sony, Hasbro, and Frogger's own Konami, decided to create a brand new adventure for him exclusively for the PS1. The opening cutscene shows a little bit of this off, going from him avoiding being squished by noisy traffic, to using a plane to fly through machinery before meeting up with a golden baby frog. ---------- In the original Frogger, you had to use different frogs to cross through traffic, and then a river in order to get them back to their homes. In the first five levels of this game, appropriately called Retro Levels, you now do almost the same thing in 3D, except now, you must gather all five baby frogs to complete each level. They are colored: Green, Orange, Purple, Blue, and Red. If they're nearby, they'll croak back at Frogger when you make him croak towards them. You have to get each baby frog before time runs out. If it does, or if you lose a life, you'll have to start over from the stage's beginning. This also happens if you successfully claim a baby frog. But this is much easier said than does, as almost everything in the game can kill you. Whether it be squished by cars, or by drowning in the water, because THIS FROG CAN'T SWIM? ---------- The Retro Levels are pretty basic in their layout, but each newer level starts adding more difficulty into it to make it harder. Such as making the land traffic and water traffic move faster. Alligators start appearing, and not just the ones you can ride on their backs, but also massive gator jaws that block you from catching a baby frog without dying! You will also start getting snakes, some right at the edge of the water, and others right on a log. There will later still be beavers that attack you if you're standing right at the edge of a turtle line or a log when then swim towards you're way. Some of the turtles themselves will dip into the water and instantly drown you, and they're slightly distinguishable by being a bit more bluish. ---------- There are also some helpful things throughout this game. If you see a fly, you can use Frogger's tongue to eat it and catch some points. There will be other kinds of flies in this game that will give Frogger special abilities for a limited time! Exclusive to the Retro Levels is a pink adult frog named Lillie. Grab her, and she'll ride on Frogger's back. Catch a baby frog while Lillie is with you for extra points! In Retro Level 5, Lillie will be replaced by a golden baby frog, though it will only look like an adult frog in this level. Each and ever zone has one gold frog in just one of its multiple levels. Grabbing one will unlock more zones for you to travel to. However, you'll unlock all of the zones before you get all of the golden frogs, but you still need them all to see the ending. I've shown off all of the first Zone's levels in a single video, but for the first of the zones, I will have videos for each of their individual levels. ---------- So sit back and enjoy this froggy game that will make you hopping-mad at how difficult it can be!
