In this video I talk about my first Carotid Endarterectomy surgery neuromonitoring experience. In the field of neurodiagnostic technology, there is a subset of people that do intraoperative neuromonitoring. This monitoring requires constant monitoring of the brain’s electrical activity using EEG. During the carotid endarterectomy, the EEG technologist doing the neuromonitoring must help the surgeon prevent a stroke. The EEG technologist monitors both sides of the brain to make sure there is not a 50% attenuation/slowing on one side of the brain. If this happens, the surgeon needs to be notified in order to prevent a stroke.
