Welcome to Pathfinders! Today we are hiking the Aqueduct Cascades Loop in Sylmar, CA 91342. This is a short urban trail with a little bit of L.A. history. The Aqueduct was instrumental in bringing water to Los Angeles. Construction on it began in 1908 and diverted water from the Owens River to the Lower Van Norman Reservoir. If you're familiar with the Ghost Town Living YouTube channel, the Owens River basin is in the valley below Cerro Gordo. This water traveled 233 miles using gravity alone which was also used to generate electricity. If not for this aqueduct, L.A. would not have developed into the metropolis that it is today. On this trail we will walk by the aqueduct cascades, view the L.A. Aqueduct from a distance, and see a couple of vistas. There's no shade on this hike, and I didn't see single person on the trail.
