The HiDALGO2 Center of Excellence (CoE) focuses on tackling global challenges through HPC, AI, and Big Data analytics. The HiDALGO2 Clustering Event “HPC and Big Data Technologies Addressing Global Challenges” was held on 4 November 2025 at the High‑Performance Computing Centre Stuttgart (HLRS), in Stuttgart, Germany. Key Highlights: The Challenge of Variability: Why accurate weather modelling is the backbone of a stable renewable energy grid. Multiscale Modelling: Bridging the gap from global weather patterns down to 10-meter local micro-phenomena using WRF and EULAG models. HPC for Everyone: How the REST toolkit makes exascale-level computing accessible to non-HPC users through a transparent web interface. AI-Enhanced Accuracy: Using Recurrent Neural Networks to analyse 12 meteorological parameters and predict electricity output more accurately than standard models. Uncertainty at Scale: Why quantifying weather uncertainties can require up to 1 million CPUs for a single forecast job. Event Organiser: www.futureneeds.eu Organised by Future Needs, the HiDALGO2 leader in Outreach, Awareness, and Impact Creation, the event brought together leading researchers, industry experts, policymakers, and SMEs to explore how high-performance computing (HPC), big data and AI technologies can tackle complex environmental and societal challenges.
