In this video you will understand the scratch’s screen layout or interface. interface and the components of scratch. All software’s have version. Let us see which version of scratch we have installed. Open the scratch. Click on the scratch button on the top left corner. This window appears. It shows we have installed version 3.12.0. If you are unable to download the scratch , then you can go to scratch.mit.edu website and click on create button. The same window appears and you can create your project here. Let us start understanding scratch now. Have you seen any drama or play? When we say drama what all things comes to your mind? List them out. Our list has 3 main things. 1. Stage 2. Music 3. Character Are you wondering why are we talking about play here. Actually Scratch and play have something in common. The one list which we made are common to both. Interesting isn’t it? Let us explore Scratch… This is the screen layout or we can also say as interface. We can divide this into 4 main parts. 1. Stage Area 2. Sprite List and Background List 3. Script Area 4. Blocks Palette Stage – Similar to the play, this is the stage where all actions take place. In the play we set up the stage background. Here also you can choose the background from the option available. First delete this cat by clicking the delete button as shown here. Sprites : Sprites are nothing but the actor’s or the characters. There can be one or more sprites in your program. How to create a sprite? Use Choose a sprite option and select search. Here you can see the images and select the one you want for your project. You can drag this sprite on the stage and place the sprite wherever you want You can give a name to the sprite. You can also change the size. Type bigger number to increase the size and smaller number to decrease the size. You can have more than one sprite. You can also delete the sprite. Script Area: This is the place where you write your code. Blocks Palate: To create the scripts you have blocks. As you can see here they are color codded. The blocks are given colour based on what they can do. As you can see here the blocks name are motion,looks, sound events etc. click on a section to see all the blocks available on that section. Click on looks block. The sprite can say something using say block. Here sprite says hello for 2 seconds What is next costume block? It changes the costume of the sprite. What are costumes? Costumes decide the look of the sprite. You can see what are the costumes available for the sprite by clicking on the costume button. This sprite has 4 different costumes. Change colour block. It changes the sprite’s colour. When you join these blocks you get set of instructions. So this is a small program. Next step.. Running the program. What is running the program? Running the program means starting the program. How to start the program? Can you see a green flag here? The green flag runs the program. The red button is to stop the program. We have to add one more code. Go to the event block and drag the when green flag clicked block. Click on the green flag. Now the program runs. The sprite says Hello for 2 seconds Changes the costume Changes the colour. Click the green flag again and observe. Also when the script is running, it glows. You can view the action in full screen by clicking this button. This is the full screen mode. Click on the green flag and see the action. Try to add more scripts to your project and have fun. You can add music too. In our next video we will show you how to add music to your project. Have you observed an interesting thing here, while joining the blocks? How does these blocks look? Can you guess? Are they look like puzzle pieces? Yes, they are. These block are like puzzle pieces. You can’t join the blocks like this. It is not correct. There is a gap here.
