Street Food in Kerala’s Hill Station | MUNNAR, India 🇮🇳

My Indian Food playlist so far 👉    • Indian Food 🇮🇳   I had been in Kerala for a few days, mostly around the busy streets of Kochi, and I started to feel the need to head somewhere higher. Somewhere cooler and quieter. Munnar felt like the right choice for a mountain escapade — India’s famous hill station in the mountains of Kerala, among lush green and tea plantations. I didn’t come here with a food list. I just wanted to see what people eat up in the hills. What does street food look like when the air is cooler and there is need to accompany your regular cup of hot chai? On my first night, I found myself hopping between small tea shops, trying banana fritters, vada and chilli bhaji — realising quickly that in Munnar, snacking with chai seems to be the rhythm of the town. The next morning, I wandered through the local fruit and vegetable market, tasted fresh sitaphal for the first time, and stopped for lunch at a small local mess to try appam with chicken curry — soft, fermented rice pancakes made to soak up every bit of sauce. Driving through the tea plantations around Munnar, you start to see how much the land shapes the food here — from bananas and jackfruit turned into crispy snacks, to cocoa beans transformed into homemade chocolate, best enjoyed with another cup of chai on a rainy afternoon.
