The Ionian Revolt (499–493 BC) was a Greek rebellion that changed the course of ancient history. Along the western coast of Asia Minor — in what is now modern-day Turkey — Greek city-states rose up against the mighty Persian Empire. What began as a local uprising soon escalated into a conflict that angered King Darius I and directly led to the Persian invasions of Greece, including the famous Battle of Marathon. In this video, we explore: Who the Ionian Greeks were Why they rebelled against Persia The burning of Sardis and its consequences The role of Athens and Eretria How this revolt set the stage for Marathon, Thermopylae, and Salamis This is the story of how a seemingly small rebellion became the spark that ignited the Greco-Persian Wars. #IonianRevolt #PersianWars #AncientHistory #AncientGreece #PersianEmpire #DariusTheGreat #GreekHistory #GrecoPersianWars #BattleOfMarathon #AncientWarfare
