French has become an official language in 27 countries and is widely spoken across about 50 countries and territories. Gascon, on the other hand, is an Occitan variety spoken mainly in Gascony, France. It's considered a variety of Occitan by some and a distinct language by others. Gascon is spoken in Gascony, Béarn, and parts of Catalonia, with Aranese being a southern Gascon variety spoken alongside Catalan and Spanish in Catalonia.
