On February 15th, the U.S. Consulate General and the DavisKlemm Gallery in Frankfurt featured American figurative painter Mel Ramos at the Finissage of his exhibition "Drawings." Doria M. Rosen, Deputy Principal Officer at the consulate, welcomed the guests by highlighting how artists like Mel Ramos help to create and develop the cultural relationship that exists between Germany and the United States. Ramos, a teacher, author and artist, achieved great fame during the 1960's U.S. "Pop-Art" movement, and is most famous for creating portraits and paintings that contextualize the human figure in a broad pop culture perspective. Ramos said in an interview for the consulate's webpage that people needed "a sense of humor" to understand his style and appreciate his creative works. He went on to say that Germany truly instills a culture for people to appreciate not only his artwork, but all forms of art.
