Together In Smoke | Poem by Isabella LaBlanc | Film by Rhiana Yazzie

Dance me outside and sing to me about worlds they say don't exist anymore. Hum songs to remember forgotten tongues. Whisper your tobacco smoke breath that smells like tradition, or at least a nicotine version of home. Let us try to remind each other of a different home, the one your grandmother holds in the deep set lines on her pals and in the corners of her eyes. A world beyond these limestone city walls, that exists just down the river, in a time that is foggy like cloud covered water. An echo world where songs never stopped, forgotten tongues trill on, where smoke smells of prairie and night sky constellations written in our dna. Hold me and assure me these worlds survive. That it's foolish to believe they would cease to exist. just because we cannot see them. Assure me they have gone on living, listening for us.
