Eddy diffusion is a mechanism of mass transfer that occurs in turbulent fluid flow due to the random motion of relatively large fluid elements called eddies. When a fluid flows turbulently, it does not move smoothly in layers. Instead, it contains swirling fluid chunks (eddies) of different sizes. These eddies carry suspended substances from one region to another, resulting in rapid mixing. This mode of transport is much faster than molecular diffusion.
