Eminems debut studio album ‘Infinite’ (November 12th 1996) has been said to have sold anywhere between 70 to a thousand copies. Following the poor sales, Eminem displayed his anger through his next project and thus the alter ego Slim Shady was released to the public. ‘The Slim Shady EP’, Em’s next project came out on December 10th 1997 and was the turning point in his career. Commercially it wasn’t a success, 500 copies were made but only around half of these were sold. Later that year, Eminem came 2nd place in the Rap Olympics, he was approached by Dean Geistlinger asking for a copy of his CD, annoyed by the result Em tossed Dean a copy of the CD, not thinking anything of it, and left. This found its way back to Jimmy Iovine who showed it to Dr Dre, Dr flew Eminem out to LA to meet him and hopefully work on music. From here they would start working on the ‘The Slim Shady LP’ with ‘My Name Is’ being the first song the pair ever worked on together, and the rest is history…
